Anthropic, currently is the leader in AI. No company has released a model as good as Mythos/Fable, and Anthropic will undoubtedly have Mythos 2 ready soon. This is Elon Musk’s (founder of Grok chatbot) opinion

The phone screen below displays the Claude Mythos application logo, consisting of the company’s coral pink asterisk symbol across the Claude name in black serif typography and Mythos in orange lettering. The composition highlights the dual branding of Anthropic and Claude Mythos, illustrating the company’s range of AI-powered services.

This current post is about Anthropic’s release of two AI models ‘Mythos & Fable.’  The company continuously  worked on new artificial intelligence models and releases those that are less expensive to operate while matching the performance level of its current Opus model & beyond.

Anthropic → Claude, announced in early April of 2026 the newest version of Claude model called Mythos, which they say has capabilities “substantial beyond those of model we have previously trained.” – Global news. Mythos successfully completed a 32-step corporate network attack simulation without human guidance. Anthropic’s own researchers stress-tested it and concluded it “poses unprecedented cybersecurity risks.” Mythos was created   to fix software vulnerabilities to prevent cyber – attacks. But of course, since it knows how to detect that; it also knows how to do the hacking. This is the reason why Anthropic didn’t release it to the public right away, instead only to 40 some big companies like Google, Apple and J.P. Morgan have obtained a copy of it. So, fearing some devastated cybersecurity attack, Anthropic ‘withhold’ release of two of its powerful AI models to general public.

This created chaos & pressure, Anthropic then released Fable 5 its most recent and most powerful mass-consumer model. Using guardrails, Anthropic had put in place rails to allow trusted users to access the powerful AI system. Fable was constructed using the same underlying technology, similar to Mythos, with more safeguards involved, especially for bio-chemicals and cyber security. They put those in the hands of consumers because they think its capabilities are much stronger. Additional guardrails were placed in to prevent misuse. Providing more benefits than harm. The product is not free, but price points are double from the previous opus 4.8 model.

 GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei first attempted to limit the Pentagon’s use of its AI models in warfare. This angered the current US administrative officials, directing the White House to label the AI firm (Anthropic) as a supply chain risk.

Mythos is Anthropic’s most capable AI model, the one that the company previewed in early April of 2026 and has kept tightly restricted ever since because Anthropic creators described the model demonstrated its exceptional ability to find security vulnerabilities in software. According to Anthropic, Mythos identified flaws in every major operating system and web browser it tested, so rather than release it broadly, the company launched a controlled program called Project Glasswing, sharing it with roughly 50 vetted organizations, including Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and CrowdStrike etc…, this action was needed for defensive cybersecurity work.

This created commercial pressure on Anthropic.  The company then released Claude Fable 5 on June 9, 2026, (Anthropic’s pressure response).  The Fable 5 product was developed using almost similar software version of Mythos but made it fitted with additional guardrails that block responses in high-risk areas like cybersecurity and biology. This made it safe enough for general release, the company argued. However, in three days of time, on June 12, 2026, US Commerce secretary invoked export control authorities to require Anthropic to shut off access to its two most capable systems, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, citing threats to national security.

Anthropic obliged government’s export control directive by suspending both the models.

Then exactly after two weeks on June 27, 2026, the US commerce secretary reevaluated the case and allowed Anthropic to deploy its Mythos 5 model to a select group of customers and partners. Per commerce secretary,  the ‘government was confident in the guardrails that Anthropic had put in place to allow trusted users to access the powerful AI system. The secretary elaborated it further saying ‘Mythos 5 access will be restored to around 100 organizations that include government agencies and private companies. A bystander explained that the restoration will help in ensuring the organizations that can use the model for defensive cyber purposes. Semafor (White House Website) first reported the letter.

“Today, the US government notified Anthropic that Mythos 5 is the strongest cybersecurity model that is allowed to be redeployed.”

How Fable5 Works: Anthropic says its understanding is that the underlying concern is a claimed jailbreak of Fable 5. the government has provided only verbal evidence of a “potential narrow, non-universal jailbreak” — one that, as Anthropic describes it, prompting the model to read a specific codebase and identify software flaws., it’s a “level of capability” that’s already widely available in other publicly accessible models, including OpenAI’s GPT – 5.5. It’s also used routinely by cybersecurity professionals for defensive purposes, Anthropic observes.

The Semafor letter is silent on Fable 5, a weaker version of Mythos that was briefly the most powerful AI model widely available to consumers. People close to the talks said they are moving toward releasing Fable as well.

Under the new Anthropic arrangement, “a license will no longer be required to export, reexport, or in-country transfer (including deemed exports and reexports) the Claude Mythos 5 Model to entities identified in Annex A to Semafor letter and their foreign national employees, or to Anthropic’s foreign national employees.”

Musk and SpaceX leadership agreed to a major partnership between xAI and Anthropic involving the Colossus 1 supercluster in Memphis, Tennessee.

Anthropic confirmed a major compute partnership with SpaceX that will significantly expand its AI infrastructure. According to the company, the agreement is providing Anthropic with more than 300 megawatts of additional power capacity and access to over 220,000 Nvidia Corp’s NVDA GPUs within weeks. Currently, Anthropic runs some of the most powerful AI models in the world on computing hardware it doesn’t own. The company signed a deal in May to lease the full capacity of SpaceX’s Colossus 1 supercomputing facility in Memphis, paying roughly $1.25 billion a month through 2029. That arrangement gives Musk’s company an unusual kind of leverage over one of his biggest rivals.

Anthropic could push AI development to a whole new level. Experts believe this could lead to smarter satellites, autonomous spacecraft, AI powered robotics, and even data centers in space. This is not just about faster AI chatbots anymore. It’s about building technology that could power the future of humanity beyond Earth. In return, Anthropic will pay $1.2 billion monthly to Space XAI.
