The GPS, which our phone’s navigation system most likely uses, allows a receiver (like our phone) to calculate its position from signals of,
several satellites that orbit the Earth.
Because time passes on objects is not universal, time on these satellites passes subtly differently compared with how it passes on Earth, both because of the satellites’ motion relative to the Earth’s surface and because of the weaker gravitational field that the satellite experience in their orbits. The software on the Phone needs to take this into account to correctly infer its location, because the different passage of time on the satellites slightly distorts the signals. It is a small effect, but it is physically real. (Ref.1)

Live! Transmission of Images from Mars
Identical to GPS technology is used elsewhere such as for out of space communication. Very recently, European Space Agency (ESA) feeds back the first streaming pictures from the red planet. LIVE is a relative term here. Mars to Earth (M-E) distance ~301,086,079km (301,086,079 000 m). Still photos are taken about every 48/58 seconds (Mars Express Orbiter, we can say nonstop Mars surface chasing!), then signals transmitted back @ 187million miles/s (3.0X10^8m/sec) to Earth’s ground station using ‘light speed.’ That took 16/17 minutes per picture. So, not LIVE like ‘happening now’ in the usual sense. Photos were taken by an orbiter going around the red planet, it was on the planet’s surface. So, in some ways it is underwhelming but in other ways really interesting.
To celebrate 20th anniversary of MARS EXPRESS ORBITER which is going after planet helping us understand what Mars’s surface conditions are like. What geology is like there. It helps to research the idea of WATER & ICE conditions on Mars. When all these converted information put together (to make sense) along with all the other explorations of Mars that has already been done by other probes and satellites — its deepening our knowledge. This red planet is next to our home EARTH. All these efforts are paving the way for the actual MARS’s Voyage, a plan that people to visit the planet on roughly 9 months travel duration depending on the planet’s position at that time. This will allow the people to walk on the very surface that we have been only able to see in (LIVE!) pictures. Now at least in a way Pictures are LIVE. (Ref.2)
