PART II
SP (Solar Panel)
Solar panels are complex pieces of technology to use. A variety of panel types (size, efficiency, color) are now available in the marketplace. Since its reception on the market solarization boomed globally very quickly and unconditionally. Market available solar panels then appeared to show up on rooftops of individual houses while large-scale solar projects were built on with rows after rows after rows of blue/black panels on vast open fields for mega scale green energy production. The truth is solar panels have a scheduled life term (20-25Y). At the end of this duration a substantial amount of bulky electronic wastes (e-waste) is derived.
At home, a report published See Ref. by International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) projected: ‘up to 78 million metric tons of solar panels will reach to the end of their life term by 2050, while the solar energy consumers will begin generating approximately 6 million metric tons of solar e-waste annually!’ The news/reports suggested things aren’t rosier even in Green Energy fields. Solar scientists knew panel dismantle problem was coming but did not realize that it would become such a humongous dreadful type of problem. Panel clearance issue now became a global problem, and to face-off the issue everyone’s involvement from every corner of the planet Earth is countable.
Inside the SANDWITCH formatted solar panel is found: the filling is a thin layer of crystalline silicon cells, which are insulated and protected from the elements on both sides by sheets of polymers and glass. It’s all held together in an aluminum frame. On the back of the panel, a junction box contains copper wiring that channels electricity away as it’s being produced.
In terms of recovery: all solid forms of trash [glass, aluminum frame, polymer sheet and copper wiring] is collected as it is there. The remaining part of SP is melted out to collect ‘pure’ metals and electronic waste. A huge amount of progress has already occurred in this domain in a very short period. The graphic below depicted the entire SP recycling story.
