Storing Renewable Energy
Like food bank we can store electric energy. Energy for millions of poor, energy deprived people is our new slogan which is a great challenge to face even for philanthropic society, government employee, or for any local big brother. Energy experts are also doing an uphill battle to make intermittent renewable energy sources to be a continuous 24/7 service.

Renewable energy to store when it is abundant and use later when needed this idea is old, though a better, powerful but cheap storage is still in demand. For the month of May, 2016 posting, I’ve decided to unearth great detail on TESLA’s PowerWall (and the larger Powerpacks for businesses and utilities) initiative is powerful though expensive endeavor for consumers.

Powerwall is TESLA Motors Inc.’s design, a 6.4-kWh unit stores electricity from home solar systems and provides backup during outage. It contained in a 4 feet tall metal box, weighing 214 pounds with retail price 3000$. With an accessory of a bi-directional inverter converts direct-current electricity into the kind of for to use (in our dishwashers and refrigerators needs). Inverter is pricy therefore it adds up money to the retail price of Powerwall. The higher price discourage customers to own the power storage and slowed the market expansion for the initiative.

An alternative to power storage for renewable energy is NEM that allows residential solar customers to sell their excess solar electricity back to utilities. This cut down Tesla’s market growth more, though NEM is being phased out from many North American states. For sure, renewable energy is evolving continuously, phase by phase, layer to layer. Rules and policies are also playing out stepwise. Major players here are Energy Corporations, Public Utilities Commission etc. A partnerships approach among the playing parties is helping and will help grow the renewable energy sector. Tesla powerwall is now expanding business in countries such as Australia, South Africa and Europe.

TESLA’s PowerWall is the most convenient energy storage till date mounted on our wall is basically a lithium ion rechargeable battery. At least seven silicon PV solar panels are needed on the rooftop to recharge the powerwall. Unlike any LIB battery technology the powerwall storage has sufficient life time.

To obtain energy independence, or for any backup power supply or to avoid costly charges for electricity during peak usage hours: to have our own battery storage give us ultimately solar electricity for 24/7. It is not just when the sun is shining, rather whenever when we need it powerwall is there to assist.
